As you might remember, I changed out my shift knob last week. That went well except for the 45 minutes I spent making sure the numbers were perfectly aligned.
Then the shift boot sagged more than normal over the weekend. No, not quite sagged, more like sank below the gate. It seems that the previous owner(s) broke the little screws holding the boot into the plastic gate and just laid on a thick super glue layer around the boot. I didn't know this, so I kept playing with the boot to achieve the optimal exposed shifter/boot ratio. Combined with the local weather fluctuations, the glue straight up failed.
Some genius along the line also drilled a sizable 1/4" diameter hole into the console and carved notches (probably indicating different MAD VTACK levels) but left out the switch. You can kinda see the notches in the lower right corner.
Then I priced it all out. Ordering everything new cost quite a bit (the shifter trim's like $50 new) so I tracked down a pretty complete replacement (console, shifter trim, and boot) off eBay for $45. One of the mounting holes is cracked and the cupholders don't really work, but it's nothing a bit of JB weld and Tamiya putty can't fix. Plus my current cupholders work well, so that's another $10 saved.
So now that's pretty much in place. I still need to glue the grab handle covers back onto the passenger side...
What will break next? Tune in next week. No, really.

Yup. The local pick-n-pull (The one with the car I need) is 75 miles away so when CL fails, it's eBay time. Honda's eStore does have some pretty fair prices if you know where to go.
The only fun part about going to the dealer is parking next to all the new cars and acting like I belong there.
